At approximately 6:45 pm, on September 25, 2018, my life changed drastically in just a few seconds when a machine cycled while clearing a jam. I was positive I had lost four fingers.
I was flown to Columbus for extensive surgery. Dr. Van Steyn assured my wife and me that she would do everything in her power to save my fingers. When I woke up in recovery, after more than six hours in surgery, she told us that although I had extensive damage and broken bones, my fingers were still intact. After physical therapy and several follow-up visits over the next six months, I was able to return to work and continue to serve as a volunteer firefighter/ EMT.
