On December 8, 2020, I was on vacation in Jamaica and decided it was a good idea to dive off a cliff into the ocean. While doing this, my left arm went over my head, dislocating my shoulder.

When I got back to Ohio, I had an MRI and found out I had not only torn but separated five tendons in my shoulder and bicep. I went to a specialist in my town and was informed they would not attempt the repair due to the severity of the injury, saying if they did, my range of motion would be very limited.

My daughter works in healthcare in Columbus and informed me about Dr. Mileti. Thank God she did! I had my first visit with him and he reviewed my MRI. He agreed that I had a significant injury to my shoulder. I am a Law Enforcement Officer, and could not return to work until my shoulder function would allow me to carry out my duties. One week after my appointment, Dr. Mileti completed my surgery.

The road to recovery was long and hard. I begin physical therapy on February 4th, which consisted of stretching and range of motion exercises. I was not allowed to do much for the first two months. By mid-April, Dr. Mileti allowed me to start with small weight and strength training. I continued with the therapy through May and returned to work on desk duty. I kept going to physical therapy 3 days a week with the direction of Dr. Mileti. I eventually increased my weight training and returned to full duty in September 2021, having recovered to at least 98%.

I continue my weight training and get stronger every day. I am a very active person who enjoys hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, woodworking, home improvements, ATV/UTV riding, and swimming. This injury changed my life for a year, but now I can enjoy retirement and do the things I love!
