I had hip and back pain for 15-plus years. I knew I needed to do something about it when golf took longer to play each time. Sometimes I’d quit after 9 holes or not play at all. Finally, after playing several rounds of golf in a few short days and losing to my son in July 2022, I reached out to Dr. Ellis and decided to get the Medacta total hip replacement.

I had surgery in September 2022. I took pain medication the first day, then ibuprofen for a couple of weeks. Zero pain and I mean zero!

Full driver swing exactly four months after surgery, but I feel I could’ve done it much sooner. I played three rounds at Pinehurst at the end of March 2023 and beat my son in 2 out of 3 matches from the same tees. Now at the end of June, I’m ready for 18-36 holes a day for the next two weeks!

My back pain is gone too. It feels amazing to get out of my truck and walk into the office without pain. I’ve gone from a hurting 63-year-old man to a pain-free 64-year young man.

I may be the exception or the rule, I don’t know, but I like it!
