Procedures
Shoulder Arthritis Surgery
Treatment options depend on the severity of the arthritis. In the early stages, the shoulder may be treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, corticosteroid injections, and physical therapy. If these methods are not helpful and if the shoulder continues to deteriorate, surgery may be needed to repair or replace the joint.

Shoulder Arthroscopy
For treatment of Acromioclavicular (AC) Joint Separation, Bankart Repair, Capsular Plication, Capsular Release and Rotator Cuff Repair.
Shoulder Fracture Surgery
There are several types of shoulder fracture, including clavicle fractures, proximal humerus fractures and scapula fractures. Each is treated differently. Clavicle fractures can be treated without surgery unless there is a compound fracture that has broken through the skin or the bone is significantly out of place. Surgery involves fixing...
Shoulder Impingement Syndrome Treatment
This outpatient procedure relieves pain by decompressing the tight space around the rotator tendon of the shoulder joint. The surgeon removes the bursa and trims back the acromion bone to allow for normal pain-free motion. In most cases, this procedure is performed arthroscopically.
Shoulder Separation Treatment
Nonsurgical treatments include slings, ice and medication to manage pain. Most return to full function following a separation injury, even with significant deformity. If surgery is recommended, it is often because pain persists or the deformity worsens and becomes severe. Your physician may trim back the end of the collarbone...
SLAP Repair
This arthroscopic procedure is performed to repair a tear of the biceps tendon at the point where it connects to the labrum, a ring of cartilage that surrounds the shoulder socket. A tear at this point is called a SLAP (Superior Labrum Anterior-Posterior) tear. SLAP repair is performed under general...
Soft Tissue Injection
There are a number of different ways that physicians, physiatrists, orthopedists, or other healthcare professionals may treat conditions that cause pain and inflammation. One piece of a larger treatment plan can include various types of injections. Injections are often prescribed to help relieve pain and decrease inflammation. These Injections can...
Spinal Cord Stimulation
Spinal cord stimulation (also called SCS) uses electrical impulses to relieve chronic pain of the back, arms and legs. It is believed that electrical pulses prevent pain signals from being received by the brain. SCS candidates include people who suffer from neuropathic pain and for whom conservative treatments have failed.
Spinal Decompression Surgery
Spinal decompression surgery is one line of treatment for those experiencing cervical or lumbar radiculopathy. You may also hear these conditions referred to as radiating pain, a pinched nerve, or radicular pain. This can happen as a result of nerve irritation or compression around the spine area. Because nerves can...
Spinal Fusion (Lumbar)
In many spinal surgeries, two or more vertebral bones are permanently joined with a technique called “spinal fusion.” A fusion creates a solid mass of bone. It stabilizes your spine.
Spinal Stenosis Treatment and Surgery
This procedure relieves pressure on the nerve roots in the spine. It is most commonly performed to relieve the pain of stenosis. This is a narrowing of the spinal canal that is often caused by the formation of bony growths that can press against the nerve roots. The surgeon may...
Sternoclavicular Joint Reconstruction
Shoulder reconstruction surgery involves repair of the torn or stretched ligaments so that they are better able to hold the shoulder joint in place. Shoulder reconstruction surgery can be done arthroscopically that involves use of smaller incisions and tiny instruments to perform the repair. Some patients may need an open...
Surgery for Achilles Tendon Rupture
This surgery fixes a torn Achilles tendon. That’s the large tendon that connects the calf muscles to the heel. The tear is called a rupture, meaning the tendon has completely torn in two.
Surgical Hip Dislocation
This procedure is used to remove excess bone growth and reshape the hip joint to allow for proper joint movement.
Talus Fracture Treatment
Treatment options include use of cast, splint or brace, rest, and crutches. In cases where the bones of the foot and ankle have moved out of alignment, surgery may be needed.
Tendon Repair
This procedure, performed under general anesthesia, is used to repair a ruptured or severed tendon in the finger or thumb.
Tendon Transfer
Tendon transfer surgery is a type of hand surgery performed to improve lost hand function. A functioning tendon is shifted from its original attachment to a new one to restore the action that has been lost.
Tennis Elbow – Lateral Epicondylitis Surgery
Treatment is determined by your physician and may include rest, an arm brace or wrist splint, physical therapy, steroid injections, ice and anti-inflammatory medications.
Tibial Osteotomy
This surgical procedure is used in cases where osteoarthritis has affected only one side of the knee joint. The tibia is cut and realigned so that pressure is shifted from the damaged side of the knee joint to the healthier side.
Tibial Plateau Fracture
Tibial Plateau Fracture Care In surgical terms, there are 6 different classifications of tibial plateau fractures, depending on the severity and the nature of the injury. However, broadly speaking fractures of the tibial plateau can be separated into two main groupings: Displaced and Non-displaced fractures. For fractures that have not...
Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy for Patellar Instability
This procedure, also called bone realignment, is designed to improve the movement of the patella (the kneecap) to correct patellar tracking disorder. The procedure usually requires hospitalization and general anesthesia.
Tommy John Surgery
This procedure is designed to repair a torn elbow ligament – an injury typically caused by strong, repetitive overhead throwing motions of the arm or by dislocation of the elbow. It was first performed in 1974 on baseball pitcher Tommy John.
Total Ankle Replacement
This surgical procedure removes portions of the ankle that are diseased or severely injured and implants a device that will help manage pain and restore mobility to the ankle.
Total Hip Replacement
During this procedure, your damaged hip joint is replaced with implants that recreate the ball and socket of a healthy hip. This can reduce pain and restore your hip function.
Total Knee Replacement
This procedure restores function to a severely damaged knee. Most commonly, it is used to repair a knee that has been damaged by arthritis. During the procedure, the surgeon replaces the damaged portions of the knee with artificial parts. These parts consist of a metal femoral component, a metal tibial...
Total Reverse Shoulder Replacement Surgery
This surgery repairs a damaged shoulder joint. It reverses the position of the ball and the socket. This lets you move your arm with your deltoid muscle, instead of the muscles of the rotator cuff.
Total Shoulder Replacement Surgery
Total shoulder replacement is indicated for someone with an arthritic shoulder, that has failed all non-operative treatment and the pain is affecting one’s quality of life. Anatomic Total Shoulder Replacement requires intact rotator cuff tendons. This surgery replaces the damaged or diseased head of the humerus (also called the ball)...
