UNDERSTANDING AND PREVENTING LACROSSE INJURIES
Did you know? More than 50 percent of youth sports injuries are preventable, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
As lacrosse season ramps up across the country and here in central Ohio, it’s important to understand the most common types of injuries associated with this growing sport and how to prevent them.
Orthopedic ONE is proud to partner with some of the region’s leading lacrosse programs including Resolute Lacrosse, Lucky Lax, and Sports Ohio. Our physicians, therapists, and trainers are dedicated to helping lacrosse athletes prevent injury and safely return to play following an injury.
Most common lacrosse injuries:
- Strains, sprains, and bruises
- Ankle and knee ligament sprains (Ankle sprains represent 21 percent of all reported lacrosse injuries for girls and 16 percent for boys)
- Knee injuries, including ACL tears
- Muscle strains of the hamstrings, quadriceps, and groin
- Head and face injury, including concussion
How to prevent these injuries:
- Know and follow the rules of the game
- Be proactive in your conditioning
- Wear the right equipment
- Take a break
- Report all injuries
