Orthopedic ONE Spirit Sprint 5k Raises Nearly $15,000 for Local Athletic Programs
The Reynoldsburg Raiders take home the trophy and $6,000, and runner-up Gahanna Jefferson earns $3,200. All participating schools win proceeds for athletic programs.
On Sunday, May 4, 2014 Orthopedic ONE partnered with nine school districts surrounding its Gahanna/Reynoldsburg office to host the 5th annual Spirit Sprint 5k Run/Walk event to benefit each districts’ athletic program. In its fifth year, the Sprint drew 530 participants – and raised nearly $15,000.
Like previous years, each school was charged with registering as many walkers and runners as possible. This year, Reynoldsburg earned first place and more than $6,000. Gahanna Jefferson was awarded second place and $3,265; and third-place finisher Groveport Madison walked away with roughly $1,600.
In total, this year’s event raised $14,895 for nine participating school districts – Amanda Clearcreek, Canal Winchester, Columbus School for Girls, Gahanna-Jefferson, Groveport Madison, Independence High School, Licking Heights, New Albany and Reynoldsburg.
“We’ve really enjoyed watching this event grow and expand year over year,” says Joel Politi, M.D., Orthopedic ONE physician and Spirit Sprint founder. “As much as we love hosting, this event really belongs to the participating schools.”
In the five years since its inception, the Spirit Sprint 5k has raised more than $56,000 for area school athletic programs. Many of the schools use these funds to offset participation fees for student athletes or replace aging equipment or uniforms.
The day also featured a free kids fun run; food; bounce houses; and participation from school mascots, bands and cheerleaders.
