6th Annual Spirit Sprint 5k Awards More than $30k to Local High Schools
On Sunday, November 1, Orthopedic ONE welcomed nearly 30 high schools from the central Ohio area to the practice’s 6th annual Spirit Sprint 5k. The event drew more than 1,000 attendees – and awarded more than $30,000 to participating schools. The money raised helps schools do things like offset pay to play fees, purchase new equipment and uniforms, or fund the arts.

“We believe athletic and extracurricular activities bring value to our schools, and we want to do our part to help these programs succeed,” said Joel Politi, MD, Orthopedic ONE physician president and Spirit Sprint founder. “This year, we were thrilled to award $15,000 in cash prizes to our participating schools, in addition to 100 percent of the registration proceeds.”
Like past years, each school was charged with registering as many walkers and runners as possible. The school with the most registered participants earns the grand price, but every school takes home 100 percent of its registration proceeds. This year, Gahanna Lincoln won first place and more than $15,000. Newcomer, Village Academy placed second and earned $6,375; and Independence High School placed third and earned $2,850.
In its six years, the Spirit Sprint 5k has raised more than $85,000 for central Ohio high schools.
The day also featured a free kids fun run; food; bounce houses; and participation from school mascots, bands and cheerleaders.
This event would not be possible without the generous support of sponsors who help us offset event costs so we can guarantee that all registration proceeds go to the participating schools.
